If you are not sure if you can handle computerized
quilting let us encourage you.
The PC skills you need are minimal but you do indeed need to know
more than how to turn on your PC and click on email. That is a start
but not quite enough. Even small communities have classes on PC
skills that are oriented for beginners. Taking one of those classes
is a great way to gain knowledge and the confidence you need. Some
senior citizen communities or centers have free classes. There is
also the fairly easy to read "PC's for Dummies' series which even
we
use from time to time. If you don't learn well from well written,
simple books, take a class. Many people do not learn well from a
book even if fairly simple - they need "hands on" learning.
For those who are not aware, computerized quilting can be easy and
simple or if you are really creative, you can use advanced features.
But using the "more difficult to learn" features is optional. You can
start out simple and grow from there.
With the several thousand quilting patterns available for the
PC Quilter,
you answer a few simple questions on width and length of the area you
want to quilt and how many repeats you want. That's not hard. You can
then tell the PC Quilter software to draw it out for you so you can look at
it before sewing. That is not hard either. Finally, when you are ready
to sew, it tells you exactly where to place the needle to begin
(usually in the bottom left corner of the area to quilt or in the
center of a quilt block depending on the type of pattern). And then it
sews. And you stand back and are astonished at what you see happening
(or the thread brakes - use the correct type of thread and needle to
avoid that) !!!
We all put a lot of time into piecing the quilt top - perhaps as
much as 100 hours or more. It deserves more than some all over pattern
or meander. You can do something spectacular instead.
The only thing limiting most people is just getting past the
"fear" and getting started. As FDR said when sworn in as president for
the first time, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself". That
applies to this subject too.
The
PC Quilter comes with a detailed
set up instruction DVD.
