OFFSET

OFFSET essentially takes the leading edge of a pattern, cuts it off and puts it on the other side of the pattern.

There are two primary uses of the offset command:

- To prevent “vertical striping” in an all over pattern.
- To adjust a pattern that interlocks or “nests” from row to row

Certain patterns use offset to create an interlocking or nesting system of individual patterns for an All-Over quilting pattern. The patterns illustrated below are an example of offset used in this manner. The OFFSET amount is indicated beneath each illustration, and the portion that was “moved” is indicated as a dotted line. These should also aid you in understanding how to design your own interlocking patterns.
